Nycticeius humeralis

These are little bats with great big personalities and a knack for ventriloquism. Bat carers know them for their ability to complain at full volume while swallowing huge quantities of mealworms at the very same time! Good trick! That, and the propensity to “skunk” intruders in their personal space, endears them to those of us with a warped sense of humeralis.

Here two evening bat pups go to the soft release box. They can stay here ’till they find a proper tree cavity or some loose bark in which to roost. They are rarely still in the box the next morning. Farewell little bats; all the best. Live long and happy lives.
